Braiding fun yesterday.. Started with normal 3 strand then transitioned into a fishtail.

Last year we saw a lot of high definition color hit the runway and magazines, and Lauren Conrad’s gorgeous peach tipped ends recently.. If you’re like me, you might be interested in trying it out, but do not want the commitment that comes with permanent hair color in such trendy colors.

Introducing the Color Bug by Kevin Murphy!!!  This chalk like product is the perfect solution to temporary, fun hair color that shampoos out.  This is a video demonstrating the ease of use and some products recommendations for optimal results.  Many of you have asked if the color bug can be used on dark hair and the answer is YES!  You will definitely want to coat your dry hair with a heavier pomade like BB Texture Cream before applying the Color Bug.  It comes in 3 colors: pink, peach, purple.

If you are interested in ordering one and having it shipped to you, please email me at kcooper723@gmail.com for more information. These will be a great stocking stuffer or Christmas gift idea!!!

By popular request, I filmed another tutorial video on creating loose waves with the curling iron.. this time using the spring of the barrel instead of just wrapping.

Key Points:

Always start with a heat protectant, such as Moroccan Oil.

I also use some BB Does It All Spray for additional heat protection and hold.

Insert the curling iron at the top of the strand and work it down.. instead of inserting at the bottom and rolling up. VERY important if you want a consistent wave.

A 1” barrel size curling iron gives the best results even for very long hair.

Adjust the heat and size of your strands based on how thick/fine your hair is.  Coarser dense hair can withstand more heat and smaller sections, while fine hair requires less heat and may use larger sections.

Use a mirror to check the back of your hair for any strands you may have missed.

For better hold, wait for your strands to cool a little bit before finger combing or brushing them out.

Finish up with your favorite hairspray.. mine of course is Davines Crystal Fixative (for wizards ;))

Day 21/21: Bang Bang!!!
So, I’ve really been toying with the idea of getting bangs! Oh, but I really love them grown out.. But it’s been the same style for a year, maybe it’s time for a change… hmmmm….
Anybody sympathize with me here?!  Jessica Simpson and Ken Paves save the day with the clip-in bangs!  Now you can try them on before the full commitment.  I’ll admit they look a little silly, but at least you can get a general idea!
Now the debate on whether to cut bangs continues… stay tuned to see the decision ;)

Day 20/21: Fishtail braid

Yesterday I went with a traditional fishtail braid, but was so busy at the salon I never had time for a video or even a pic!!!  So for your viewing pleasure, the always lovely Lauren Conrad has teamed up with an awesome hair/beauty website called The Beauty Department to do a demo of a simple fishtail.  Enjoy lovelies!

Day 20/21: Fishtail braid
This is a pic of a fishtail I did a long time ago, but you get the idea ;)

Now today is my last day and I must admit, I’m completely obsessing over getting a full fringe of bangs!!!  We shall see….

Day 19/21: Mini Fishtail Braid

Now that I’m nearing the end of my fun journey, I realize how much I love wearing my hair down!  So I had to get a little creative on how to add a little something extra ;)  I just added a little fishtail braid underneath for a creative twist to wearing my hair down and wavy.

Day 18/21: Loose Waves Tutorial

Today I was ambitious and attempted my first tutorial video showing the ease of creating loose beachy waves!  Many of my clients have asked for ideas and tips!

I always start with a couple drops of Moroccan Oil on my dry hair before applying heat.

Best results with a 1” curling iron.

I like to finish with a medium hold hairspray like Davines Crystal Fixative.

Day 17/21: Bun Mohawk

Happy Halloween!!!  Since I chose to forgo dressing up in a costume today, I thought it would be fun to try out a funkier do’… enter the Bunhawk or Bun Mohawk.

I received inspiration and instructions for this do’ from a blog, Hair Romance, I found on Pinterest…Great blog, check her out!!!

Day 16/21: Side Fishtail

Today I have the privilege of styling hair for Maude Boutique’s photoshoot with some of the top bloggers in our area: Ashes of Laughter, Blonde Ambition, Smith and Emma, NWA Motherload, and Tulip Louise!!! I’ll post pics later :). I did manage to sneak my own style in there too..

Today I threw in some Moroccan Oil and loose waves to start. Then pinned back my long bangs with a bobby pin. From there, I took 2 large pieces of hair and fishtail braided then along the side. As always, I hid the elastic with my own hair and finished with my favorite hairspray, Davines No 7 Crystal Fixative Lacquer For Wizards.

Day 15/21: High Ponytail

Today was a very busy day in the salon so I kept it simple with a high ponytail! Just moisturized my ends with some Moroccan Oil and used a boar bristle brush to pull up. I wrapped a strand of hair around to hide the ponytail holder and secured it with a hair pin.

Day 14/21: Vintage Inspired Waves

I’ve been loving the look of vintage inspired glam waves lately and wanted to try it out on myself in a way that did not require finger waves!  I came across a photo/demo of Lauren Conrad on Pinterest and tried it out today!

Here is a link to the website, BeautyDepartment, with instructions on achieving the look.

I used their placement of curls, but used hot rollers (that I had to dig out of my closet and blow the dust off!) instead of the curling iron.  Yesterday I attempted the curling iron way and it wasn’t as successful.

I started with smoothing Moroccan Oil along the ends of my hair.

I put the hot rollers in and left them for about 45 minutes until they were completely cooled.. did my makeup and finished some coffee in the meantime ;)

After taking them down, I hair sprayed with Davines Crystal Fixative (ultimate fav hairspray) and let it sit for a few minutes before combing.

After combing to desired smoothness, I sprayed one final time!

Love it!

Day 13/21: scarf headband

Another fun accessory to change up your look is a silk scarf! Today I opted for a more boho look with the scarf tied around the outside of my head instead of under my hair. I worked with my waves from yesterday and added some Moroccan Oil to the ends for shine.. Outta the house in no time!
