Makeover on my beautiful cousin.. Adding in dimension to her blonde.
Pro tip: if you are nervous to go darker, keep some blonde around the face and slowly add it in.

Creative braids

With the NWA Fashion Week headliner shows only 2 days away, I’ve been watching videos and scrolling through fun event hair to get my creative juices flowing!  Braids are still a big trend this season and will be a guarantee on the runway this weekend.  Here are some inspiration photos of how to incorporate braids into your do..

Tonight kicks off the week of fashion and beauty with Shopping Night Out at all of our area’s local boutiques.  I’m about to start getting ready to hit up a couple of my favorites!

Studio 8 Salon is honored to be styling hair for Lola and Savoire Faire on Friday night, and Chic, Riffraff and Maude Saturday night!  I’ll be brainstorming and getting creative all week in preparation!

Socap Hair Extensions

Hi friends!  I have a couple amazing makeovers using So.Cap. Hair Extensions today..

The Socap single strand bonded extensions are not only for the girl who wants long hair, but also for:

- adding color/highlight/dimension

- adding fullness

- adding texture, hold and manageability to fine hair

- blending layers or an undesired cut

- adding length/fullness around the face, where the hair grows slowest.

First client is Lauren, who came in wanting to add length to her shoulder length bob.  Using 2-1/2 bundles, we added about 3-4” of length!

Next we have Jennifer, who came in looking to get the ombre color effect and add some length and fullness to her hair.  We did one bundle of extensions and incorporated some lighter strands for the ombre effect to achieve fullness, longer length around the face, and about an additional inch of length in the back.

For more information on So.Cap. Hair Extensions or to book a complimentary consultation, contact Studio 8 Salon to book an appointment with me!

Kelly

My sweet friend Jessica came in yesterday wanting to richer up her blonde, so we used 2 shades of golden pearl and 1 pale blonde to get this result. We love it! She is currently living in Japan with her husband, who is in the Air Force, and I was so honored she included a hair appt with me during her visit home! She said it has been a little challenge to find a stylist there and even the language can be a barrier.

Here are some tips to finding a stylist in a new town!
1. Ask for a referral! Anyone you see that has hair very similar to the color and cut you want.
2. Bring in pictures. In my opinion, that is the best form of communication especially if there is a language barrier. Just be realistic about expectations! ie: if you have short blonde hair, don’t bring a pic of Kim K and expect it in one visit ;)
3. Ask your previous stylist if they would pass on your formula to your new stylist. I’ve done this for clients who have moved and had new ones bring them in.
4. Go with a name you recognize! Companies like Aveda or Bumble and Bumble go through rigorous training and education so you can rest easy your stylist knows what they are doing.

Socap Hair Extensions

Before/After

Before/After 60 strands of Socap Hair Extensions at Studio 8 Salon by yours truly.

By popular request, I filmed another tutorial video on creating loose waves with the curling iron.. this time using the spring of the barrel instead of just wrapping.

Key Points:

Always start with a heat protectant, such as Moroccan Oil.

I also use some BB Does It All Spray for additional heat protection and hold.

Insert the curling iron at the top of the strand and work it down.. instead of inserting at the bottom and rolling up. VERY important if you want a consistent wave.

A 1” barrel size curling iron gives the best results even for very long hair.

Adjust the heat and size of your strands based on how thick/fine your hair is.  Coarser dense hair can withstand more heat and smaller sections, while fine hair requires less heat and may use larger sections.

Use a mirror to check the back of your hair for any strands you may have missed.

For better hold, wait for your strands to cool a little bit before finger combing or brushing them out.

Finish up with your favorite hairspray.. mine of course is Davines Crystal Fixative (for wizards ;))
