Save your hair from heat!

If you have ever been in the salon to see me, I’m almost certain you received the question…

“how often do you wash your hair?”

Some of you may be shocked to know I wash mine about every 4 days!  It may take some time for your scalp to adjust it’s amount of natural oils it produces and for you to adjust to the idea, but it really is better for the health of your hair to at least skip one day between shampoos.  Especially after a color service, I would recommend 48-72 hours so your cuticle has time to fully close back down to prevent color loss.

Here is a sneak peek at my routine..

Day 1: Shampoo/Condition with Davines Love.  Apply Bumble Tonic Lotion to detangle with my wet brush.  Also apply a little of the Davine Invisible Styling Cream to smooth down my cuticle.  Blow dry my bangs, roots and long layers to avoid leaving the house with a wet head, but leave my ends damp.  Then I spray them with the Bumble Surf Spray.. sea salt is an amazing ingredient to bring out the best hair wave.  Fishtail or regular braid my ends for a cute look that saves my hair from additional heat styling.

Day 2: Take out the braid, and apply some Moroccan Oil to my ends.  Comb out and let the natural waves take shape!

By day 3, I usually need a little dry shampoo (Bumble makes one with a dark blonde pigment to avoid the white powder look) at my roots and use some more Moroccan Oil before creating the big loose waves with my 1” Hot Tools curling iron.

Day 4: repeat day 3… most of the time I do not have to re-curl.. just comb the curls out and go with a looser wave.

Give it a try!  And trust me, the right products go a long way.

Day 18/21: Loose Waves Tutorial

Today I was ambitious and attempted my first tutorial video showing the ease of creating loose beachy waves!  Many of my clients have asked for ideas and tips!

I always start with a couple drops of Moroccan Oil on my dry hair before applying heat.

Best results with a 1” curling iron.

I like to finish with a medium hold hairspray like Davines Crystal Fixative.

Day 16/21: Side Fishtail

Today I have the privilege of styling hair for Maude Boutique’s photoshoot with some of the top bloggers in our area: Ashes of Laughter, Blonde Ambition, Smith and Emma, NWA Motherload, and Tulip Louise!!! I’ll post pics later :). I did manage to sneak my own style in there too..

Today I threw in some Moroccan Oil and loose waves to start. Then pinned back my long bangs with a bobby pin. From there, I took 2 large pieces of hair and fishtail braided then along the side. As always, I hid the elastic with my own hair and finished with my favorite hairspray, Davines No 7 Crystal Fixative Lacquer For Wizards.

Day 14/21: Vintage Inspired Waves

I’ve been loving the look of vintage inspired glam waves lately and wanted to try it out on myself in a way that did not require finger waves!  I came across a photo/demo of Lauren Conrad on Pinterest and tried it out today!

Here is a link to the website, BeautyDepartment, with instructions on achieving the look.

I used their placement of curls, but used hot rollers (that I had to dig out of my closet and blow the dust off!) instead of the curling iron.  Yesterday I attempted the curling iron way and it wasn’t as successful.

I started with smoothing Moroccan Oil along the ends of my hair.

I put the hot rollers in and left them for about 45 minutes until they were completely cooled.. did my makeup and finished some coffee in the meantime ;)

After taking them down, I hair sprayed with Davines Crystal Fixative (ultimate fav hairspray) and let it sit for a few minutes before combing.

After combing to desired smoothness, I sprayed one final time!

Love it!

Day 5/21 of 21 Day Hair Styling Challenge: natural wave
Yikes, a very nasty crick in my neck had me in a painful massage this morning instead of styling my hair! I couldn’t even get it blown dry, so thankful for natural wave and the amazing massage therapist, Suzanne at Revive Day Spa!!!
After shampooing with Bumble Gentle shampoo and Super Rich conditioner, just sprayed in some Bumble & Bumble Tonic to assist in detangling and some Bumble Surf Spray for the waves and let it dry au natural.
